Mount K2 is the second highest mountain in the world. Mount K2 is located in the upper Athabasca River Valley of Jasper National Park. It was named by Rex Gibson in 1938. It lies partly in China and partly in Pakistan. It was discovered and measure in 1856 by Col. T.G. Montgomerie and was given the symbol K2 because it was the second peak measure in the Karakoram Range. K2 is also known as the Savage Mountain due to the difficulty of ascent and 2nd highest fatality rate among the eight thousanders for those who climb it.
